A Broadway Tale

So we stop, curious as the door opens and two nattily dressed theatre patrons slid out from behind the heavy door with that smug look that even the most carefully casual patron of the arts can't ever successfully hide.
So we wait, expecting that with the black car, complete with tinted glass parked right outside the door, it couldn't be that long.
Then more people leave, and more, and finally Ferny and I look at each other with that look, wondering if the entire cinema had been backstage congratulating the actor/playwright on the revival of his one man show.
After almost half an hour, the big black car got revved, the truly rich people left for their white stretch limo and the man stepped out to meet his fans.
The production marked full circle for Palminteri who first wrote the one-man play as a vehicle for himself before it was picked up by Robert De Niro for his debut as a director for the 1993 production of the film version.
A Bronx Tale made Chazz Palminteri's career, so this turn on stage must have been a return home both geographically and aesthetically for an actor who is usually lost in growly gangster roles wrapped in long fur coats.
My buddy Fernando Arias grabbed some photos of the actor with his fans on his iPhone and sent the one on this page.
