Response to BitDepth 589

Aye Mark I can tell that you are not a tv person in any form or fashion - dat was a real bad review boy!! So hear my side of the story if you have time (cause you may know I cannot tell a story short)

As you know we residents (of a well-populated Southern area that shouldn't be as remote as it is) only got cable about 2 or 3 years ago at which time only about 3 or 4 of us got cable and kept our dtv (the rest changed over)

Anyhoo dtv is great for sports especially since cable always tiefing signal and forever have to block the programme.  Last football season for example two of my cousins had to get their respective fathers to add dtv bec there was no Spanish football on cable (ALL the games were shown on dtv with the important ones being mainly in English) and English football was only showing on channel 3.  There was also some English football on dtv but in spanish.  This season we will be getting more English football on dtv in English starting on aug 25. I don’t know what's happening with Spanish bec I I called dtv but they told me to call back nearer to the start of the season.

Also dtv has been constantly adding channels and you did not even say in your review that they also have the US networks (abc, nbc and cbs – the programming that goes to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Is).  As I am typing this I am thinking I must check to see if during the day they have the soaps for all dem housewifes – they probably do – But even without those channels you still get some good shows on their networks - WTV, Sony etc - like all the CSI's for example, they were just a month or two behind

The one thing I don’t like about dtv is that there is no hard copy tv guide tho you can go to the dtv site and check the programming online but they don’t input the sports until late so I normally do the tv check for the weekend games on the fri night or sat morning and for the weekday games well I know the schedules for the teams I follow so I know when to check but it is a pain

With respect to the movies (I started with the full package and downgraded to the basic package once I got cable so I don’t get HBO, Max or MCity) originally I know the movies were a bit older than the cable ones - don’t know what it's like now bec during the football season I don’t need movies and during the break I got to the video club

Actually if you had asked me last season to choose bet the two if I could only have one I would have chosen dtv. This season once they are bringing Spanish football I would say the same

In respect of this new Plus thing - it kinda expensive and you have to lease you can no longer own the hardware. the question is how important are the following to you:

-
       The ability to "tivo"
-
DVR with 90 hrs programming capability
- The ability to look at one channel while taping another
- The ability to have 3 tv's showing different channels simultaneously

For me the plus thing is not attractive - $150 basic dtv plus $200 cable = $350 gives me enough flexibility.  They probably ask you to look at it bec they ent getting enuff sales – damn good!!
